Elementary School ENL teacher Ms. Gilroy recently led her 2nd-grade students to Ms. Ramirez's and Miss Edwards' 2nd-grade classrooms for a culture walk that highlighted different cultures in the rooms with the assistance of student ambassadors representing Pakistan, Yemen, Morocco, El Salvador and Guatemala.
Students were first split into groups with their "passports" and learned greetings in different languages from their ambassadors. Next, they collected facts from displays, books and cultural artifacts. The small groups formulated questions, then shared their new knowledge and questions with the entire group. The enthusiastic culture collectors culminated their experience with a tasty treat from Pakistan - bananas dipped in melted chocolate with crunchy cookies. It was a fun and informative cultural experience!
