kindnessDuring the month of November, the Johnson City Elementary School's library classes focused on the theme of kindness and doing for others. Grades 2-5 students listened to the book “Just Help: How to Build a Better World” written by Sonia Sotomayor, Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. The classes learned about the importance of being kind and doing for others in school, at home and in the community. In addition, each student wrote about one way they helped during the week and created cards of encouragement for middle school and high school students. Librarians Chelsea Stewart and Kathleen Grabowski then took the papers and made bulletin boards for the high school, middle school and library. The classes also held a coin drive and collected $100 for donation to the St. James Food Pantry.

To top off the month of kindness, K-1 students read books about kindness and made cards for United Methodist Homes - Hilltop Campus. Hundreds of handprint turkey cards were delivered to wish the residents a Happy Thanksgiving.
